Bodegas Casa Primicia

From the 15th century onwards Casa Primicia was the place where the church collected the tithe (a 10th part of the harvest) and first fruits of the harvest which the serfs were obliged to donate. This also included the first grapes harvested from the vineyards. In 1973, Casa Primicia was bought by the vine farmer Julián Madrid from Laguardia. He totally restored the building including the old stone wine “lagos” (vats) inside the building so that wine could be made once more. This was the beginning of Bodegas Casa Primicia led by its pioneering founder.

Taking advantage of the kind micro-climate, Casa Primicia´s vineyards stretch from the foot hills of the Sierra Cantabria Mountains to the River Ebro, both of which are natural borders to the north and south of the Rioja Alavesa region.

Bodegas Casa Primicia makes it wines with grapes from a total of  50 hectares of its own vineyards and vineyards belonging to 40 other vine farmers from the towns of Elciego, Oyón, Lapuebla de Labarca and above all from Laguardia. The grapes are carefully selected to make top quality wines. In order to guarantee the quality of its wines Bodegas Casa Primicia supervises the management of the vineyards throughout the year. Special attention is paid to the pruning, the use of natural fertilisers, not using pesticides and controlling the yield per hectare.
